Marketing consent

The sentence you tick

On the Free plan, sign-up shows one unticked box with this sentence beside it:

I agree to receive marketing from Talk of the Trade and its partners about business growth and advertising services, by email and phone. Unsubscribe any time.

The words its partners link to the partners page, which names who they are. Free is not available without the tick. Starter and Crew do not show the box and carry no marketing consent.

What it means

Talk of the Trade, and the partner named on the partners page, may email you and ring you about services that help a business get more work or advertise. Some phone calls may be made by an automated voice assistant. Nobody will text you under this consent. The consent is recorded with the exact sentence shown, its version, the time, your IP address and browser.

How to withdraw

Any of these works, at any time:

  • Open Account in your dashboard and press Withdraw marketing consent.
  • Press the unsubscribe link at the foot of any marketing email.
  • Reply stop to a marketing email.
  • Tell the caller to stop during a call.
  • Email hello@talkofthetrade.com.au.

Withdrawal is recorded the same way the consent was, and the email and phone marketing stops.

What happens to the account

The consent is what pays for Free. After you withdraw, the plan runs to the end of the current month, Melbourne time, and the dashboard shows the date. It then ends unless you have moved to Starter or Crew, or given the consent again from your Account page, which keeps Free going. Your quotes, enquiries and price list stay in the account until then and can be sent to you on request.

A lapsed paid plan

If a paid plan ends and you choose to carry on for free, the Billing page shows the same sentence and the same unticked box. Ticking it then is a new consent, recorded fresh.

Changes to the sentence

If the sentence ever changes, the version number changes with it. A consent you gave to an earlier version is a consent to what that version said, and you will be shown the new sentence before it applies to you.
