Quoting for solar installers
A solar quote is panels, an inverter, maybe a battery, and the install that makes them work on this roof: tilt frames, tiles, a second storey, room on the switchboard. Customers line three quotes up side by side. Quote Desk sets each part out as its own line, so when the quotes are compared line for line, yours is the easy one to read.
Quote from Wattle Row Solar
6.6 kW system, double-storey tiled roof
| 6.6 kW system, after certificate discount | $4,190.00 |
| Standard install | $1,100.00 |
| Tiled roof, 15 panels | $375.00 |

| Total | $6,295.00 |
Up against two other quotes. Accepted on day ten.
What gets in the way for solar installers
Three quotes side by side
Solar buyers compare system size, panel and inverter brands and the price after any discount, often in a table of their own. A quote that names each part on its own line is the easy one to compare, and the easy one to say yes to.
The roof decides the install
Tin or tile, one storey or two, one roof face or panels split across two. The same 6.6 kilowatt system costs more to fit on a steep tiled roof. Lines for tiles, tilt frames and a second storey make the difference visible.
The switchboard surprise
An older switchboard may need work before the inverter can go in, and you only know once it is open. A line for it, or a sentence in the note saying it is quoted separately if needed, stops a dispute on install day.
Discounts and rebates
Quote Desk adds the lines you give it and accepts no negative line, so quote the system at the price after any certificate discount and spell out the discount in the note. The customer sees the number they will pay, and how you got there.
A worked example
Solar installer work, with Quote Desk
Picture a fictional installer, Wattle Row Solar, a crew of three. Their price list holds the parts that change from roof to roof: standard install $1,100 each, tiled roof $25 per panel, second storey access $350 each, switchboard space and solar breaker $280 each, battery install $1,400 each. The system itself goes on as a typed-in line, because the panels and inverter change with every customer.
A customer forwards an email asking for a 6.6 kilowatt system on a double-storey tiled house, and mentions she already has two other quotes. On site the installer confirms room for fifteen panels on the north face. Quote this: a typed-in line for the 6.6 kilowatt system at $4,190, standard install x1, tiled roof x15, second storey access x1, switchboard x1. The note says the price includes GST, the system price is after a certificate discount of $1,700, the panels and inverter are as named or an equal model if stock is short, confirmed before install, and the install is within three weeks of acceptance. Total $6,295. Sent from the footpath.
He presses Follow up automatically. The customer accepts on day ten, after the third reminder; the reminders did the asking while she read the other two quotes. Six months later she asks about a battery. That is a new quote with two lines, the battery as a typed-in line and battery install x1, and a sentence in the note on whether any rebate is in the price.

Questions from solar installers
How do I show a rebate or certificate discount?
Quote the system at the price after the discount and write the discount amount in the note. Quote Desk has no rebate field and does not accept a negative line, so the note is where the customer reads how the price was reached.
Can I quote two system sizes for the customer to choose from?
Send two quotes, one for each size, each with its own accept link. The customer accepts the one they want. Switch follow-ups on for one of them only, or the customer is reminded about the size they did not pick.
Does Quote Desk check my quote against the rules for solar work?
No. It sends the lines and the note you write, and checks nothing against the rules for your trade. Check the licence requirements in your state.
How many solar installers are on Talk of the Trade?
As of October 2026 the directory has 143 ranked lists of solar installers, with 890 businesses listed in New South Wales, 740 in Victoria and 662 in Queensland. Quote Desk is separate from those listings.
