Quoting for scaffolders

Scaffold is quoted as an erect-and-dismantle price for the job plus hire by the week, with edge protection, screening and changes on top. The builder thinks about the start date; the hire weeks are where the money is. Quote Desk puts the erect and dismantle, the extras and the weekly rate on the quote, so an overrun is already priced.

Quote from Lattice Hill Scaffolding

Re-roof scaffold, double storey

Erect and dismantle, two lifts, 36 m$2,340.00
Roof edge protection, 36 m$1,008.00
Shade cloth screening, 36 m$324.00

Sent from the yard. The roofer accepted at lunch.

What gets in the way for scaffolders

Hire that runs over

A job booked for four weeks runs to seven while the roofer waits on sheets. If the weekly hire rate is on the accepted quote, the extra weeks are an invoice, not an argument.

Changes after handover

Lowering a lift for the renderer or adding a bay for the painter is a return visit. A modification line on your list, and a sentence in the note, mean the request comes with a price.

Footpaths and boundaries

A scaffold over a boundary or on the footpath can need someone else's say-so. Say in the note who arranges that, so the start date does not wait on it.

Builders who compare per metre

One quote prices the face, another prices the face with edge protection and shade cloth. A line for each extra shows the builder whether the cheaper one includes what the roofer needs.

A worked example

Scaffolder work, with Quote Desk

Suppose a fictional crew of three, Lattice Hill Scaffolding. Price list: erect and dismantle, two lifts, first four weeks' hire included $65 per metre of face; hire after four weeks $6 per metre of face a week; roof edge protection $28 a metre; shade cloth screening $9 per metre of face; modification visit $280 each; mobile tower hire $160 a week.

A roofer forwards an email: a re-roof on a double-storey house, with scaffold on three sides. The scaffolder measures 36 metres of face. Quote this: erect and dismantle x36, edge protection x36, shade cloth x36. The note says the price includes GST; four weeks' hire is included, and each week after that is $216 (36 metres at $6); the scaffold is handed over before the roofer starts; any change once it is up is a modification visit at $280. Total $3,672. Sent from the yard. The roofer accepts at lunch.

In week six the roofer asks for a lift to be lowered so the gutters can go on. That is a new one-line quote, modification x1, $280, sent and accepted while the roofer is still on the phone. Weeks five and six are invoiced at the weekly rate the roofer already accepted in the note.

Questions from scaffolders

How do I show weekly hire on the quote?

Either as a line with the number of extra weeks you expect, or as a rate in the note: hire beyond four weeks at this much a week. The note travels with the quote, so the rate is accepted with the price.

Can I quote a modification on the day?

Yes. Build a one-line quote from your list and send it while the builder is standing there. The original quote stays as it was accepted.

Does Quote Desk handle scaffold tags or handover paperwork?

No. It sends quotes and nothing else. Keep handover paperwork where it is now, and for who may put up what, check the licence requirements in your state.

How many scaffolders are on Talk of the Trade?

As of October 2026 the Scaffolding Services category has 40 ranked lists, with 211 businesses listed in New South Wales, 154 in Victoria and 141 in Queensland. Quote Desk does not affect any listing.
