GST, whole-number quantities and other things the builder does not do

Quote Desk adds nothing to your lines. Here is how to handle GST, fractions, discounts and deposits within that.

The quote total is the sum of your lines and nothing more. A few consequences.

GST. There is no GST line and no tax calculation. If you are registered for GST, put GST-inclusive prices on your price list and write Price includes GST in the note. If you are not registered, say that instead. Either way the customer knows what they will pay.

Fractions. Quantities are whole numbers. For an hour and a half, add a half-hour item to your price list, or put the labour on one line at a per-half-hour rate with a quantity of three. For 7.5 square metres, round up to 8 or price the odd half metre as its own typed-in line.

Discounts. There is no discount field. Lower the price on the line, or add a typed-in line with a zero price and a description such as Second coat included at no charge. A negative price is not accepted.

Deposits. Quote Desk does not take money. State the deposit and when it is due in the note; the customer accepts those terms with the price.

Attachments. None. The quote is text and a link. Send drawings or photos in your own email and refer to them in the note.

Editing. A saved draft is fixed. Changes are a new quote.
